Upon the completion of the NHL Draft later today, the waiver wire for players with no AHL or NHL experience will reopen. With the reopening of the waiver wire, we have made one tweak to the previously updated rule. The process for obtaining players with no AHL or NHL experience is:
If you wish to sign a player who does not have NHL or AHL experience, AKA: an undrafted free agent, or a prospect who has yet to appear in an AHL or NHL game, you will need to place a waiver claim on said player.
Players who are not owned by a team in KPD and have not yet played one (1) NHL or AHL game will remain on waivers until claimed. Therefore, in order to sign a player without AHL or NHL experience, a waiver claim must be placed.
Waivers for these players will run each Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 12:00 PM EST. At that time, players will be awarded to teams based off the appropriate waiver claims. You can only have a max of three (3) pending claims at one time.
For players who do have AHL or NHL experience, Free Agency will begin on Monday, October 11th at 12:00 PM EST. Normally we would stager the opening of free agency into three tiers, forwards/D/goalies, but with us conducting the UFA draft, the pool is less valuable and it's easier to do it all at once at this time. A reminder on the UFA rules:
The minimum bid is $650,000 and there is no maximum.
For skaters 35 and older, you can offer a max contract of 3 years. For skaters 34 and under, you may offer up to 6 years.
For goalies 35 and older, you can offer a max contract of 3 years. For goalies 34 and under, you may offer up to 8 years.
Skaters and goalies with no NHL or AHL game experience are not eligible to be signed via free agency and must be "claimed."
Remember, the per-year salary over the life of the contract remains constant for KPD-signed players.
When bidding on UFAs, you must multiply years by cash. For example, 3 yrs @ $.80 (multiplied it's $2.4) would beat a 1 yr @ $2.3 (multiplied it's $2.3) offer.
You must out-bid by the multiplied total of $.10 for it to be valid.
Players are only eligible for free agency if they are signed to or have their rights owned by an NHL team.
Players will be placed in our league where they are IRL (active roster if they are active in the NHL, minors if they are in a minor league) as of the date they are signed.
Free agents who are signed in the offseason CANNOT be traded until the start of the ensuing KPD regular season. Once the season starts, they can be traded normally.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
